History
The Store Makers
1868
Stefan Hopferwieser, the great-grandfather of the present owners, receives the “concession” to operate a joinery business.
1939
Mathilde Hopferwieser, granddaughter of the founder of the company, marries Josef Umdasch. He joins the management of the company in 1939. The company moves to the east of Amstetten and new premises are built.
1956
In the year of 1956 there was the specialisation in the business areas shopfitting (umdasch The Store Makers) and formwork technology (Doka).
1987
In 1987 the late Josef Umdasch shook hands with Sheikh Ahmed Hassan Fitaihi on the contract for the Retail Interiors of the landmark department store in Jeddah which remains to date in its original condition with only the ground floor being refurbished in 2014 by the Store Makers again. This project was a first milestone for the retail landscape in the Middle East and initially all manufacturing was coming from Umdasch's factories in Austria.
2003
The architects Jean Habis & Elie Dib from Lebanon have launched 2003 in Dubai the office for HDD Interiors with a focus on Design & Project Consultancy Services as well as the Project Management for General Contracting Service various luxury retail projects across the Middle East.
2005
After serving since 1987 all Umdasch customers in the Middle East from the offices in Europe, there was finally a regional office set up with a Commercial License initially registered in February 2005 at Emaar Business Park in Dubai as a Mainland UAE entity.
2008
In 2008 an Industrial License was registered as a branch to the Commercial License and with a warehouse location in Dubai at Al Quoz Industrial Area with initially small assembly and repair works being executed on the ground for projects accross the regions. Shortly afterwards with the investment in first CNC routing machines also full local fabrication for existing accounts was done in Dubai to further reduce project delivery time frames and increase cost efficiency in every respect.
2013
In 2013 JWP Technical Works was established with a small workshop in Dubai Investments Park 2 with a specific focus on Pop.up Stores, Brand Concessions and POS Displays for luxury retail brands.
2018
Due to growing demand for projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Umdasch has started to set up a separate team to work out of an office in Jeddah with a subsequent commercial registration of a Service Entity to serve local customers and projects with installation in Saudi better on the ground.
2018
Umdasch Shopfitting becomes umdasch The Store Makers. This underscores the company's broad portfolio of services on the international market.
2019
Celebrating together more than 150 years of Corporate History, more than 30 Years of Project Experience in the Middle East and more than 10 Years of Manufacturing in Dubai, the grand opening of a new 70,000sqft Regional Production Hub at Dubai Investments Park 2 was marking the next milestone of a new era for professional Retail Developments in the Middle East on April 25th, 2019. The new new facility was set to consolidate more capabilities under one roof and create more capacities for the rapidly growing demands across the entire region.
2020
umdasch takes a majority stake in the Turkish company Madosan. The specialist for sheet metal shutter construction and heavy-duty shelves is one of the most successful representatives of its industry and thus additionally complements the portfolio of the Store Makers.
2021
The Store Makers in the Middle East are uniting JWP Technical Services, HDD Interiors and umdasch as three strong brands under one roof from 1 January 2022. This forms a powerhouse that is one of the largest and most renowned companies for Retail Interiors in the Middle East.
